From girls' nights in to those late-night study snack cravings, I hold Ben & Jerry's near and dear to my heart not only as one of my favorite go-to ice creams, but also as one of my favorite brands. Ben & Jerry's might be my sweet spot, but I'm convinced that this modestly-grown and nationally-known ice cream company from Vermont is going to change the world. In addition to creating the most addicting flavors ever, Ben & Jerry's just gets it. In response to the new SCOTUS ruling earlier this year, our favorite ice cream company renamed their Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough flavor "I Dough, I Dough" this past summer to show their support marriage equality. And if all that isn't rad enough, Ben & Jerry's is all for the movement against global warming, drastic climate change, and more specifically -- icebergs melting.
Ben & Jerry's #FonduFoutu "anti-media" campaign in France is directed towards raising public awareness for environmental action and for COP21, an international conference run by the United Nations for climate change that will take place in November and December this year in Paris. Their slogan, «Quand c'est Fondu, c'est Foutu !» (which translates to, "When it's melted, it's ruined!"), is both a humorous comment about dripping ice cream cones in the heat, as well as a bold statement about rising global temperatures and its effect on icebergs in colder regions. At Rock en Seine, many had a great time engaging with the brand, licking their free ice cream cones in the hot sun and learning more about the #FonduFoutu petition and campaign. The "American" Ben & Jerry's supports the movement as well, with its new flavor this summer called "Save Our Swirled," with the iconic "SOS" acronym printed on the rim of the pint lid. But the target audience of the #FonduFoutu hashtag was the festival-goers of big music festivals in France. Plus, the French pun they use is just the "cherry on top" of this marketing campaign. On their website, they present a friendly disclaimer to all: «Nous ne sommes pas des chercheurs mais nous pensons que les calottes glaciaires tout comme les crèmes glacées sont faites pour rester gelées !» ("We are not scientists, but we think that ice caps, like ice creams, are meant to stay frozen!") How can we not be obsessed with Ben & Jerry's for the awesome company they are?!
