I finally made it to the big city! ...Well, kind of. Back to cramped dorms, a shitty stove, and being stupidly unprepared for occasional summer storms. Living in Chicago has been none of the glitz and glam in my head that's supposed to come with moving to the city when it feels like freshman year of college all over again. At the same time, however, there is something about this city that makes everyone smile during this season, and I've just began to realize how lucky I am to be here for this stretch of summertime Chi.
Deep dish, the Bean, and Lollapalooza (the only 3 things I knew existed in Chicago before arriving) are pretty great bragging rights. But Chicago's too-perfect summer vibe from park festivals and block parties is already making me sad about the end of my internship in 7 weeks when I have to leave. It's something about the sense of community, the beautiful weather, and the free spirit that lives both on and off the streets. Picnics in the park are a community event at Jay Pritzker Pavillion, where we'll grab a few bottles of wine and lay out on blankets for Millenium Music Mondays. I live for the days that my manager tells us to head out early on light days when the days are too good to be spent inside. And a few friends and I ended up at the Taste of Randolph street festival last night, which we decided to stumble into last minute to see Atlas Genius play their entire set. I can't wait to see what other surprises this amazing city has in store for us in the few weeks we have left! |
